iPod
The iPod is Apple’s ubiquitous MP3/media player that stores media on a small hard drive or flash memory. It can also display video downloads and act as a simple hard drive capable of storing anything (not just music).
Although not the first MP3 player, the iPod was the first media player to gain massive popularity, with over 40 million sold worldwide.
The “iPod” name even inspired the term “podcasting”, a combination of iPod and broadcast.
The cult status of the iPod has almost singlehandedly created a market for subscription-based audio content that can automatically be downloaded from iTunes and then uploaded to the device.
Even today, the iPod remains the market-leader in portable media players, and the one must-have electronic accessory for most tech-savvy consumers!
